Yamaki Kanetaka

Year of birth: Unknown. A warrior in the late Heian period. He was known as Izumi Hangan and Yamaki Hangan. He was a Kebiishi and Uemon no Jō. He was the son of Taira Nobukane, and his brothers were Kanehira, Nobuhira, and Kanetoki. In 1179, he was dismissed from his post due to a dispute with his father, and exiled to Izu. In 1180, when Izu Province became the fief of Taira Tokitada and Taira Tokikane became the kokushi, he became its deputy. According to the Tale of the Heike and the Tale of Soga, Hojo Tokimasa tried to make Kanetaka the husband of his daughter Masako. When Minamoto no Yoritomo raised his army, Kanetaka was the first target of attack because he was "an enemy of the country and also for my own motives." In August 1181, Yoritomo ordered Fujiwara Kunimichi to investigate Kanetaka's mansion, which was a fortress, and on the 17th, he took advantage of the festival at Mishima Shrine to raise his army, and Kanetaka was killed by Kato Kagetaka, Sasaki Moritsuna, and others.

平安末期の武士。和泉判官,山木判官と号す。検非違使,右衛門尉。平信兼の子,兄弟に兼衡,信衡,兼時がある。治承3(1179)年父との不和により解官,伊豆に配流された。同4年伊豆国が平時忠の知行国となり平時兼が国司となるとその目代となった。『平家物語』『曾我物語』によれば,北条時政は兼隆を娘政子の婿にしようとしたという。源頼朝の挙兵に当たり,兼隆は「且は国敵として且は私の意趣」のゆえに第1の攻撃目標とされた。治承4年8月,頼朝は要害の地であった兼隆の館を藤原邦通に命じて内偵させ,17日三島神社の祭礼に乗じて挙兵し,兼隆は加藤景廉,佐々木盛綱らによって討たれた。
