Amarume [town] - Amarume
A former town in Higashitagawa County in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture, in the center of the Shonai Plain. With extensive rice paddies, it produces a lot of Shonai rice, and is also a thriving producer of sake, miso, soy sauce, and other products, as well as food manufacturing. It is an important transportation location at the intersection of the Uetsu Main Line and the Rikuu West Line. In July 2005, it merged with Tachikawa Town in Higashitagawa County to become a town, Shonai Town. 58.44 km2 . Population 18,460 (2003).
