Amarume [town] - Amarume

Japanese: 余目[町] - あまるめ

A former town in Higashitagawa County in the northwest of Yamagata Prefecture, in the center of the Shonai Plain. With extensive rice paddies, it produces a lot of Shonai rice, and is also a thriving producer of sake, miso, soy sauce, and other products, as well as food manufacturing. It is an important transportation location at the intersection of the Uetsu Main Line and the Rikuu West Line. In July 2005, it merged with Tachikawa Town in Higashitagawa County to become a town, Shonai Town. ^{58.44 km2} . Population 18,460 (2003).

山形県北西部，庄内平野中部の東田川(ひがしたがわ)郡の旧町。水田が広く，庄内米の産が多く，酒，みそ，醤油などの醸造，食料品製造も盛ん。羽越(うえつ)本線と陸羽西(りくうさい)線の交差点に当たる交通の要地。2005年７月東田川郡立川町と合併し町制，庄内町となる。58.44km²。１万8460人（2003）。
