Bulk Polymerization - Kaijoujuugou

Japanese:
Bulk Polymerization - Kaijoujuugou

Also known as bulk polymerization. This is a method of polymerizing only monomers by adding small amounts of initiators, without using a solvent. From an industrial perspective, this method has many advantages, such as not using solvents and being able to directly obtain molded products, but a major problem is controlling the polymerization temperature, including removing the heat of polymerization that is generated. Also, if unreacted monomers remain in the polymer, it is difficult to remove them. This method is used to make organic glass from methyl methacrylate, but other examples can also be seen in the polymerization of styrene and vinyl chloride.
