Year of death: 13 July 1623 (9 August 1623) Year of birth: Tenbun 3? (1534) He is the founder of the Tsukushigoto from the end of the Muromachi period to the early Edo period. There are many different theories, but he is said to have died in 1636 (at the age of 90). He was the son of Miyabe Hyuganokami Takenari of Chikugo (Fukuoka Prefecture). After his father's death, he became a monk at Zendo-ji Temple in Kurume (Fukuoka Prefecture) at the age of 7. He composed "eikyoku" (poems) by organizing the scores of gagaku music and folk songs accompanied by the koto and humming wind instrument melodies handed down at Zendo-ji Temple, and perfected songs accompanied by the koto. It is said that he also used the seven-stringed koto that he learned from Zheng Ka-jo, who came to Japan during the Ming Dynasty, as a reference. He later served Otomo Sorin and returned to secular life. When Sorin converted to Christianity, he fled to Shojo-ji Temple in Minamizato, Hizen (Saga Prefecture), and at the age of 38, he was invited by Ryuzoji Anjun in Taku, Ogi County. After returning to secular life, he took the names Morota Kurodo and Kenjunsai. He is said to have participated in the Battle of Osaka during the Bunroku War. His disciples included Genjo and Hosui. <References> "Report on the Investigation of the Chikushi Koto" (Combined Issue 26-29 of "Eastern Music Research") (Nogawa Mihoko) Source: Asahi Japanese Historical Biography: Asahi Shimbun Publications Inc.
