Born: January 29, 1904 in Leipzig [Died] January 30, 1976. Hamburg. A contemporary German social psychologist and philosopher. He studied under H. Driesch, who was a pioneer of organic philosophy (vitalism), at the University of Leipzig. He later became a professor at the same university and at other universities, and has been a professor at the Aachen Higher Technical School since 1962. He advocated a new philosophical cultural anthropology based on the view of human beings that humans are not "thinking beings" or beings driven by natural animal instincts, but beings who consciously create culture. His main works include Staat und Philosophie (State and Philosophy) (1935), Der Mensch, seine Natur und Stellung in der Welt (Man: His Nature and Place in the World) (40), and Anthropologische Forschung (Anthropology) (61).
