This refers to a path between resting and feeding areas of wild animals. Wild animals have fixed paths within their range of activity, such as between resting or hiding places and feeding areas, and they often move along the same route. In forests and grasslands, these paths are cleared and the ground is trampled down, and in the case of brown rats and brown rats, they are dirty with footprints. All of these are called animal trails, and hunters, especially trappers, read these paths to determine hunting grounds, and placing poison bait on these paths is effective for exterminating rats. In hunting terms and archaic words, they are also called uji, utsu, wari, and kayoi. Hikers can mistake paths often used by wild boars and deer for hiking trails and get lost. Such paths are also called deer trails or boar trails. [Minoru Asahi] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
