A cape on the east coast of Florida, USA. The name comes from the Spanish word Cañavera (meaning reed). In 1963, it was renamed Cape Kennedy after President Kennedy, but in 1973 it reverted to its original name. It is home to a rocket launch site for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and is used to launch long-range missiles, satellites, and manned spacecraft. Rocket and guided missile-related industries are concentrated around the cape. [Kanno Mineaki] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
