It is one of the peaks in the Chomolungma (Everest) mountain range in the Himalayas. It is located about 3km south of Chomolungma, on the border between Nepal and China, so it is named "Southern Peak" in Tibetan. It is 8,516m above sea level. To the south are the Lhotse Glacier, West Lhotse Glacier, and East Lhotse Glacier.
