Clinically, sympathomimetics with strong alpha receptor stimulating effects are mainly applied locally to constrict blood vessels in mucous membranes and subcutaneous tissues, and are used to remove congestion, suppress mucous secretions, and stop bleeding during surgery. Since adrenaline has a short duration of action, solutions of phenylephrine, ephedrine, naphazoline, etc., which have a longer-lasting effect, are generally used.
