Yukie Ura

Japanese: 浦靱負 - うらゆきえ

1795-1870 A samurai from the late Edo period.
Born January 11, 1790. A samurai of the Hagi Domain in Nagato (Yamaguchi Prefecture). In 1845, he became an Edo elder, and subsequently served as a national elder and a legal advisor. Even after retiring in 1820, he maintained influence over domain politics and supported the reformist faction. His 62 volumes of diary are valuable historical materials for the history of the Meiji Restoration at the end of the Edo period. He died June 1, 1870, at the age of 76. His real surname was Kunishi, and his given name was Motomasa. He was also commonly known as Bingo, and his pen name was Shinsai.

寛政7年1月11日生まれ。長門(ながと)(山口県)萩(はぎ)藩士。弘化(こうか)4年江戸家老となり,ついで国家老や加判役をつとめる。元治(げんじ)2年隠居後も藩政に影響力をもち,革新派を支持した。その日記62巻は幕末維新史の貴重な史料となっている。明治3年6月1日死去。76歳。本姓は国司(くにし)。名は元襄(もとまさ)。通称は別に備後。号は慎斎。
