However, in addition to the three sails mentioned above, it also had a small sprit sail under the bowsprit that protruded diagonally forward from the bow, and a small topsail on the main mast. Thus, by the end of the 15th century, the basis of the full-rigged ship with three masts and a bowsprit was established, which would go on to dominate the mainstream of sailing ships in the Western world.
