Japanese: クワエダシャク(桑枝尺) - クワエダシャク（英語表記）Menophra atrilineata

An insect of the Geometridae family of the Lepidoptera order (illustration). The larvae are well known as pests of mulberry trees. When fully grown, the larvae reach about 7 cm in length, and when they hold on to the trunks or branches of mulberry trees with their abdominal legs and remain motionless in a straight line, they look very similar to dead mulberry branches. In the past, when people were working in mulberry fields or harvesting leaves, they would bring in a clay pot filled with tea, and when they mistook the teapot for a branch and hung the vine on it, the teapot would fall off. This is why these looper beetles were called "dobinwari." They appear twice a year, and overwinter as larvae in fallen leaves or gaps in trees.

鱗翅目シャクガ科の昆虫（イラスト）。幼虫はクワの害虫としてよく知られている。十分成長した幼虫は7cmくらいに達し，これがクワの幹や枝に腹脚でつかまり，一直線の姿勢で静止していると，クワの枯枝にそっくり似ている。昔，クワ畑で手入作業や葉の収穫をするとき，土瓶に入れたお茶を持ち込み，枝とまちがえて土瓶のつるを掛けると，土瓶が落ちてしまうところから，このシャクトリムシをドビンワリと呼んでいた。年2回の発生で，落葉や木の隙間で幼虫の状態で越冬する。
