A feudal lord of the early modern period. Born in Mino Province. Sengoku Hidehisa served Toyotomi Hideyoshi and was granted 50,000 koku of land in Komoro, Shinshu. From 1600 (Keicho 5), he belonged to Tokugawa Hidetada, and in 1622 (Genwa 8) under his son Tadamasa, he was transferred to Ueda, Shinshu, with a fief of 60,000 koku. Later, through division of the land, his fief was reduced to 58,000 koku. In 1706 (Hōei 3) under Masaaki, he was transferred to Izushi in Tajima. In 1835 (Tenpo 6) as a result of a family dispute (the Sengoku Disturbance), his fief was reduced to 30,000 koku. This continued until the end of the Edo period. The head of the family was appointed to the rank of Echizen no Kami (Lord of Echizen) and other titles. After the Meiji Restoration, he was made a viscount.
