A former town in Kawakami District, western Okayama Prefecture. It occupies the Kibi Plateau and the plains of the Ryoke River. Tobacco cultivation is thriving, and tomatoes and shiitake mushrooms are specialty crops. From Mt. Yataka to the Ryoke River, the town is a treasure trove of geological research, with the deck-like structure of Oga no Oshikabuse (a natural monument) and karst topography. In October 2004, it was incorporated into Takahashi City along with Arikan Town in Kamibo District, Nariwa Town in Kawakami District, and Bitchu Town. 86.91 km2 . 4,031 people (2003).
