Jamāl al‐Din

Japanese: ジャマール･アッディーン（英語表記）Jamāl al‐Dīn

A Chinese astronomy, calendar, and geography scholar from the Yuan Dynasty. His Chinese name was Zhao Ma Ding. He was probably Iranian, but his birth, death, and immigration to China are unknown. He served under Kublai Khan, and in 1267 (the 4th year of the Yuan Dynasty), he produced seven astronomy and geography instruments called the Western Region Instruments and compiled a calendar called the Perpetual Calendar, both of which he presented to Kublai Khan. In 1271, he was appointed head of the Tiantai Observatory (Islamic astronomy observatory) of the Huihuishi in Dadu, and in 1273 he also served as chief secretary, working to collect Islamic documents.

中国，元代の天文･暦法･地理学者。中国名は札馬剌丁。おそらくイラン人と思われるが，その生没年および中国への移住の年代は不明。世祖フビライに仕え，1267年(至元4)〈西域儀象〉と呼ばれる7種類の天文･地理関係の器具を作製，また《万年暦》と呼ばれる暦書を編纂してともにフビライに献上した。71年大都の回回司天台提点(イスラム天文台長)に任命され，73年には秘書監の長官の職をも兼任してイスラム文献の収集に努めた。
