...The latter was active in Germany from 1901 to 1914, preparing the Bauhaus movement, which advocated functionalist aesthetics, and after returning to the country he became a promoter of modern architecture that rejected ornament. 19th century sculpture was dominated by neoclassicism, and apart from the works of Meunier and the Symbolist George Minne (1866-1941), who depicted workers and peasants in realistic and monumental ways, there was little new material. The latter was also a member of the first "Latem School," which will be discussed later. ...
