'Abd al-Hādī

1889‐1970
A lawyer and a leading figure in the pre-war Arab Palestinian liberation movement. Born into a prominent family in Nablus, he founded a secret political society called "Young People" in Paris in 1911 with seven other members. It differs from the society of the same name that was founded in Beirut in 1875 in that all members were Muslims. During the two world wars, he had close ties with the King of Jordan and Amin al-Husseini, and after going into exile he held a key position in the Arab League, but was unable to become head of the PLO. 戦前派アラブ･パレスティナ解放運動の代表的存在で弁護士。ナーブルスの名望家の出身で，1911年パリで7名で秘密政治結社〈青年〉をおこす。全員がイスラム教徒である点が，1875年ベイルートにできた同名の結社とは違う。2度の世界大戦の間，ヨルダン国王やアミーン･アルフサイニーと関係が深く，亡命をへて，アラブ連盟の要職につくが，PLOの首脳にはなれなかった。【林武】
