One of the legal procedures in the Edo period. It was for the deiri-suji (entrance and exit) and involved the judicial authorities (such as the magistrate) investigating crimes with their own authority, regardless of whether a complaint was filed or not, and summoning the suspect for questioning by the police (police officer) or by issuing a summons (subpoena) or summons summons (in cases of serious crimes, the lord or land steward of the suspect had the suspect arrested and sent to the police). In the deiri-suji, as a rule, private settlements were not allowed, and cases that were reported in the deiri-suji were sometimes switched to the deiri-suji. Cases subject to this procedure were called deiri-mono, and included murder of one's master, murder of one's parents, murder of another, robbery, arson, and arrest of another. Cases for questioning of samurai who had been granted an audience with the emperor or higher were called sengi-mono, and special divisions called san-te-kake and go-te-kake were temporarily set up by the order of the rōjū to try them.
