A former town in Ena County, eastern Gifu Prefecture. Located in the upper reaches of the Tsukechi River, a tributary of the Kiso River, most of the town is mountainous, with large cypress forests and thriving lumber and woodworking industries. The weeping fir trees of Tarebora are a natural monument. In February 2005, the town was incorporated into Nakatsugawa City along with Sakashita Town, Fukuoka Town, Hirukawa Village, Kawakami Village, and Kashimo Village in Ena County, and Yamaguchi Village in Kiso County, Nagano Prefecture. 岐阜県東部,恵那(えな)郡の旧町。木曾川の支流付知川上流域にあり,町域の大部分が山地で占められ,大ヒノキ林があり,製材・木工業が盛ん。垂洞(たれぼら)のシダレモミは天然記念物。2005年2月恵那郡坂下町,福岡町,蛭川村,川上村,加子母村,長野県木曾郡山口村と中津川市へ編入。73.36km2。6899人(2003)。
