...A general term for minerals that contain molybdenum. Examples of molybdenum minerals include the sulfide mineral molybdenite (MoS _{2 )} , the molybdate mineral wulfenite (PbMoO _{4 )} , powellite (CaMoO _{4 )} , ferrimolybdite (also called ferrimolybdite) (Fe ₂ (MoO ₄ ) ₃ ･8H ₂ O), and koechlinite (BiO) ₂ (MoO ₄ ). The most important molybdenum ore is molybdenite, and the other minerals are often found as secondary minerals resulting from the oxidative decomposition of molybdenite.

...It is a mineral composed of the complex anion (MoO ₄ ) ^2- and a cation, and includes wulfenite, powellite, and lindgrenite. Wulfenite (also called molybdenum lead ore) PbMoO ₄ is a tetragonal yellow to reddish brown square plate crystal with clear cleavage on {011}.
