1822‐46 The first Korean priest. Born in Yongin-hyeon, Gyeonggi-do, he was from Gimhae. His childhood name was Saifuku. His religious name was Andrea. After graduating from the seminary of the Paris Foreign Missions Society in Macau, he began evangelizing in his home country in January 1845, and was ordained a priest by Bishop Ferreol in Shanghai in August of the same year. The following month, he secretly entered Korea with the same bishop and Father d'Abruis to continue his missionary work, but was arrested in Dangsan-jin, Hwanghae-do in June 1846, and executed by beheading in September of the same year (Byeong-o Prison).
