Name of the theater company. Founded by the husband and wife duo Kamiyama Sojin and Yamakawa Urajiro, along with Iba Takashi and others. The company was launched in 1912 with Ibsen's Hedda Gabler, and the following year had its Japanese premiere of Goethe's Faust at the Imperial Theater. However, the company's repertoire and acting gradually became more Shinpa-oriented, and due to internal conflicts within the company, it disbanded after its final production of King Lear in 1919. The couple then moved to the United States, and Kusato entered Hollywood, where he became the second Japanese movie star after Hayakawa Sessue.
