〘名〙 (「はわくそ」の時代も) ほくろ。ほくそ。ははくろ。※彌勒上生経賛平安初期点(850頃)「亦は黶・点(ハハクソ)・疣・贅とのごとき過は无し」※古本説話集(1130頃か)五六「こしのもとに、はわくそと物のあとこそ候し」[語誌]古代には「あざ」と「ほくろ」との区別が明確でなかったともいわれるが、「ははくそ」は「あざ」より狭義で、現在の「ほくろ」に当たると思われる。「はは(母)+くそ」で、母の胎内にいる時についた「かす」と考えられていたか。
