Zebra finch (Japanese name: Kinkadori) - Zebra finch (English name: Kinkadori)
A bird of the family Acanthidae (illustration) in the order Passerine. At 10 cm in length, it is smaller than a sparrow. Sexes are heterochromatic, with males having reddish-brown cheeks. From the throat to the chest there are thin stripes of white, gray, and black. The back is gray and the sides are reddish-brown with small white spots scattered throughout. The beak is dark red. Females lack the brown patterns on their cheeks and sides, and no throat stripes. Both sexes have black upper tail covers with prominent white horizontal bands. Distributed from Australia to the Sunda Islands, it is the most commonly seen finch in Australia, except in the moist coastal forests.
