Kirokuda

Japanese:
Kirokuda

The title of a Kyogen piece. Tarokaja Kyogen. The master who lives in Oku-Tamba orders Tarokaja (shite) to bring six wooden sticks and six charcoal sticks attached to cows as a year-end gift to his uncle in the capital. The kaja, who is also given a sake barrel, drives 12 cows and climbs a hill in heavy snow. He finally arrives at a teahouse at the pass of Oinosaka, but has no sake, so he opens a souvenir sake barrel and starts a drinking party with the teahouse owner. After dancing the "Uzura Mai", he gives the wooden sticks to the teahouse and asks for the remaining five sticks to be exchanged for money for his own pocket money, and delivers only the six charcoal sticks to the capital. When the uncle becomes suspicious after seeing the letter from his master, the kanja tries to deceive him by saying that he recently changed his name to Kirokuda, "I said that I was born Kirokuda and that I was born Sumi-rokuda," but his lie is eventually discovered and he is cornered. The above is the storyline of the Izumi school, while the Okura school does not specify place names such as Oinosaka, and the storyline of the Yamamoto Tojiro family is particularly different, but in both cases the highlight is the performance of the kanja driving up a snowy mountain pass while chasing many cows that do not actually appear.
