A small annual plant found in southwestern China and the Himalayan region, it is divided into one genus and one species, the Circaeasteraceae family (illustration). It is a dicotyledonous plant. The hypocotyl is persistent and elongates to a length of several centimeters, and the cotyledons are also persistent, with numerous basal leaves and flower stalks growing on top of it, giving it a unique morphology. The basal leaves are rosette-shaped, with obovate leaf blades and wedge-shaped bases that transition into petioles, measuring 0.5 to 2.5 cm in length in total. The leaves are also unique in that they lack a midvein and have bifurcated veins.

中国南西部からヒマラヤ地方に分布する小型の一年草で，1属1種よりなるキルカエアステル科Circaeasteraceaeがもうけられている（イラスト）。双子葉植物。胚軸が宿存，伸長して長さ数cmとなり，子葉も宿存し，その上に多数の根生葉と花茎を叢生（そうせい）するという特異な形態を有する。根生葉はロゼット状で葉身は倒卵形，基部はくさび形で葉柄に移行し，合わせて長さ0.5～2.5cm。葉には中脈がなく，葉脈は二叉（にさ）分岐をすることも特異である。
