He murdered his uncle and cousin to become king, and built forts, roads, and military equipment, strengthening the national power of the Macedonian kingdom. He also strengthened the economy by promoting trade and adopting the Persian currency system. His reign was generally peaceful, but he was assassinated by a favorite at the end.
