Amal (English spelling)

Japanese: アマル(英語表記)Amal
Amal (English spelling)
A political party founded in 1975 by Musa al-Sadr, the supreme Shiite leader in Lebanon. "Amal" means "hope" in Arabic. In Lebanon, where a sectarian system of governance has been established by the National Concordat, power is distributed according to the sectarian population ratio at the time of the establishment of the National Concordat. Although the Shiites became the largest sect in Lebanon in the 1970s, they were not granted sufficient political, social, and economic rights commensurate with this, so they launched a movement (the movement of the deprived) demanding legitimate rights for the Shiites. It first participated as a political party in the 1992 general election. It has a militia organization of the same name.
