A patriot of the late Edo period. The son of a local samurai from the Dewa Shonai domain. He studied literature and martial arts in Edo, travelled around the country, and opened a school in Edo. After the Sakuradamon Incident, he worked hard as a patriot, and in 1861 his plans to rise up in rebellion in Edo were leaked, forcing him to go into hiding. In Kyushu he became acquainted with the Sonnno Joi faction, including Maki Izumi and Hirano Kuniomi, and in 1862 he plotted to rise up in rebellion to coincide with Shimazu Hisamitsu's arrival in Tokyo, but failed in the Teradaya Incident. In 1863 he participated in the formation of the shogunate's Roshigumi, and went to Kyoto, but came into conflict with the pro-shogunate faction, including Kondo Isami and Hijikata Toshizo, and was sent back to Edo where he was assassinated by a shogunate official. He wrote a travel diary, "Saiyuusou." → Shinchogumi → Related topics Shinsengumi | Chiba Shusaku | Yamaoka Tesshu Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
