Salt Company - Ensankaisha

...In some places, such as Bizen Nozakihama and Sanuki Sakaidehama, salt wholesalers also served as fuel (firewood, coal) wholesalers. From the 1870s onwards, salt production companies and salt industry associations were established all over the Setouchi region, but the wholesale function of the production areas that had existed since the Edo period was absorbed into these companies and associations. Then, in 1905, with the implementation of the salt monopoly system, the government gained the right to sell salt.
