Travelogue - Gyōryakushō

Japanese: 行歴抄 - ぎょうりゃくしょう

An abridgement of Enchin's travel diary, Zaitang Junreiki (also called Gyōreki). 1 volume. Zaitang Junreiki, which details Enchin's nine-year journey from April 851 (Jinshu 1) when he left Kyoto to China, to his return in 858 (Ten'an 2) and his entry into Mount Hiei the following year, was abridged by Yoritaka in 1049 (Eishō 4). The part up to his crossing in August 853 was abridged by Chikan in 1194 (Kenkyu 5). Today, when Zaitang Junreiki is no longer available, this is a valuable historical document on Buddhist negotiations between Japan and China. In addition to Enchin's own account of his search for the Dharma, this book provides unique historical material on the behavior of Tendai monks who traveled to China, such as Enzai, Enki, and Enshū, and the Buddhist lineage of Munjō and Seikan.

円珍の入唐旅行日録《在唐巡礼記》(《行歴記》ともいう)の抄録。1巻。円珍が851年(仁寿1)4月に京を発して入唐し，858年(天安2)帰朝して翌年叡山に入るまで，9年に及ぶ旅行の詳細を記した《在唐巡礼記》5巻を，頼覚が1049年(永承4)に抄録。このうち853年8月に渡海を果たすまでの部分は，智勧が1194年(建久5)に追抄したもの。《在唐巡礼記》の伝わらぬ今日，日唐間の仏教交渉史料として貴重。円珍自身の求法記事のほか，円載，円基，円修ら入唐天台僧の行状，文挙，清観らの法系などに関し，独自の史料を伝える。
