Gargling refers to gargling with a liquid for the purposes of cleaning, sterilizing, deodorizing, and relieving pain in the oral cavity, pharynx, and larynx. Usually, an aqueous solution of a disinfectant, preservative, or astringent is used, which is a drug that causes little local irritation and is harmless if swallowed. うがいのこと。口腔，咽頭，喉頭部の清掃，殺菌，除臭，止痛などの目的で，液体をもってうがいすることをいう。通常，殺菌剤，防腐剤，収斂剤などの水溶液で，局所の刺激が少く，飲み込んでも害のない薬物が用いられる。たとえば，2%ホウ酸水，1～2%重曹水などである。
