King of Lydia (r. 685-657 BC). He killed King Candaeus, married his wife, and founded the Mermnad dynasty. He attacked Miletus, Smyrna, and Colophon, and made offerings at Delphi. He allied with the Assyrian king Ashurbanipal against the Cimmerians, but lost Assyria's support when he helped an Egyptian revolt and was killed by the invading Cimmerians.
