Pseudo‐alum (English spelling)

Japanese: 擬ミョウバン(擬明礬) - ぎみょうばん（英語表記）pseudo‐alum

Alum is a double salt with the general formula M ^I ₂ SO ₄ M ^III ₂ (SO ₄ ) ₃ ･24H ₂ O (or M ^I M ^III (SO ₄ ) ₂ ･12H ₂ O), but this refers to a double salt with a composition in which a divalent cation (M ^II ) is substituted for the M ^I. However, it is not clear whether there are actually any double salts with 24 waters of crystallization. For example, iron alum (halotrichite) Fe ^II SO ₄ ･Al ₂ (SO ₄ ) ₃ ･22H ₂ O is a monoclinic mineral that is formed when a hydrothermal solution containing sulfuric acid acts on igneous rocks.

ミョウバンはM^I₂SO₄M^III₂(SO₄)₃･24H₂O(またはM^IM^III(SO₄)₂･12H₂O)の一般式で表される複塩であるが，このM^Iの代りに2価の陽イオン(M^II)が入った組成をもつ複塩をいう。しかし実際には結晶水が24のものが存在するかどうかは明確でない。たとえば鉄ミョウバン(halotrichite)Fe^IISO₄･Al₂(SO₄)₃･22H₂Oは，硫酸を含む熱水溶液が火成岩に作用して生ずる単斜晶系の鉱物である。
