Repellent - Kihizai

A drug used to keep unwanted insects and animals away, also called a repellent. Diethylamide di-N-propyl isocinchomeronate, 2,3,4,5-bis( Δ 2-butylene)tetrahydrofurfural, di-n-propyl isocinchomeronate, and N-octyl-bicycloheptene dicarboximide are some of the drugs used to prevent bites from insects such as mosquitoes, horseflies, blackflies, fleas, bedbugs, mites, and stable flies, and sprays, lotions, and creams containing these are available commercially. They are applied or sprayed on exposed areas of the skin, such as the face, neck, arms, and legs. They can also be applied by soaking them into the inside of clothing sleeves and hems.

Repellents for mice and rabbits include β-naphthol and cycloheximide. These act as taste repellents and are only effective when a mouse or rabbit bites them. They are effective on electric wires, gas hoses, furniture, etc., but are not effective on places that are simply used as passageways. Sprays containing 0.2% cycloheximide are commercially available.

好ましくない虫や獣を近づけないことを目的に用いる薬剤で、リペレントrepellentともいう。カ、アブ、ブユ（ブヨ）、ノミ、ナンキンムシ、ダニ、サシバエなどの虫刺されの予防に用いられるものに、ジエチルアミド・ジ-N-プロピルイソシンコメロネート、2・3・4・5-ビス（Δ2-ブチレン）テトラヒドロフルフラール、イソシンコメロン酸ジノルマルプロピル、N-オクチル-ビシクロヘプテン・ジカルボキシイミドなどがあり、これらを含有するスプレー、ローション、クリームが市販されている。顔、首すじ、腕、足など皮膚の露出部に塗布または噴霧する。そのほか、衣服の袖(そで)口、裾(すそ)などの内側にしみ込ませて使用することもある。

　ネズミや野兎(やと)に対する忌避剤にはβ-ナフトールやシクロヘキシミドがある。これらの作用は味覚忌避であり、ネズミや野兎がかじって初めて効果を発揮するもので、電線やガスホース、家具などには有効であるが、単に通路にしている所では効果が期待できない。シクロヘキシミドを0.2％含有するスプレーが市販されている。
