A perennial plant of the family Violaceae (APG classification: Violaceae). It has a short rhizome. The aboveground stems grow to a height of 20-30 cm, and several tufts grow upright from the base of the plant. The stems and leaves are covered with fine white hairs, the leaves are triangular-cordate shaped, the inside of the lateral petals and the back of the tip of the pistil are hairy, and the spurs of the lower petals are short, which distinguish it from related species. It flowers in May. It grows in temperate grasslands and under bright forests in the Chubu region and north of Honshu, and in East Asia.

スミレ科（APG分類：スミレ科）の多年草。根茎は短い。地上茎は高さ20～30センチメートルになり、株元から数本束生して直立。茎や葉などに白色の微毛があり、葉は三角状心形、側弁の内側と雌しべの先の背部に毛があり、下弁の距(きょ)が短いことなどが近縁種との区別点である。花期は5月。本州中部地方以北、東アジアの温帯の草原や明るい林下に生える。
