Cynognathus (English spelling)

Japanese: キノグナツス（英語表記）Cynognathus

A genus of mammal-like reptiles belonging to the Synapsida subclass of reptiles. It was formerly classified in the Therapsida order, but is now part of the Cynodontia in the new order Therosauria. It flourished in the Early Triassic, forming the cynognathus zone in South Africa. It also flourished in Argentina at one time. It was carnivorous, with large canines and distinct incisors and cheek teeth. The cheek teeth have multiple cusps. There is a secondary palate on the palate of the skull.

爬虫類の単弓亜綱Synapsidaに属する哺乳類様爬虫類の1属。古くは獣弓目(獣窩目)Therapsidaに入っていたが，新目テロサウリアTherosauriaのキノドン下目Cynodontiaに含まれる。三畳紀初期に栄え，南アフリカではキノグナツス帯を作る。アルゼンチンにも同じように栄えた時期がある。食肉性で，犬歯が大きく，切歯と頰歯は区別される。頰歯には複数の咬頭がみられる。頭骨口蓋部に二次口蓋がある。
