Mbandzeni

In 1946, King Mswati II asked Britain for protection in response to repeated Boer demands for annexation, and Britain granted protection, but this also led to an increase in British settlers. King Mbandzeni, who ascended to the throne in 1974, granted land use rights to whites, but the whites broadened this and claimed to have acquired land ownership. In 1994, an agreement between Britain and the Transvaal Republic placed the Swazi Kingdom under the control of the Boer Transvaal Republic, and in 1902, after the end of the Boer War, it officially became a British High Commissionerate.
