This refers to the difference in brightness (luminance) of various objects seen by humans and their spatial arrangement. The field of vision in an room is made up of areas of different brightness and darkness, ranging from very bright objects such as windows and light sources to very dark objects such as corners of a room or under a desk. Differences in luminance are an important clue for identifying an object, but on the other hand, if the difference in luminance occupying the field of vision is too large, the human eye becomes fatigued as it is forced to adapt to bright surfaces and dark surfaces and make rapid changes.
