Akiyama Jiun

Japanese: 秋山自雲 - あきやまじうん

Known as Akiyama Jiun Spiritual God, it is the deity of the grounds of the Nichiren sect Honshoji Temple in Tamahime-cho, Asakusa, Edo, and was widely touted as having miraculous powers for curing hemorrhoids. Zenbei, a clerk for Okada Magoemon, a sake wholesaler in Shinkawa, suffered from hemorrhoids for seven years and died on September 21, 1744 (Enkyo 1), and was given the posthumous Buddhist name Shuzan Chiso Koji. In his suffering, Zenbei is said to have vowed that if he died, he would save those afflicted with hemorrhoids. As a result of this vow during his lifetime, he was enshrined as a spiritual deity after his death, and became a god who bestows blessings. After this, Jiun Spiritual God was enshrined in Nichiren sect temples, and attracted many followers as a miraculous power for curing ailments below the waist.

秋山自雲霊神とよばれ，江戸浅草玉姫町にある日蓮宗本性寺の境内神で，痔の病に霊験ありとして広く喧伝された。新川の酒問屋岡田孫右衛門の手代善兵衛が，7年にわたって痔疾に苦しみ，1744年(延享1)9月21日に没し，秀山智想居士という戒名を与えられた。善兵衛は，苦しみの中で，もし自分が死んだら，痔疾に悩む者を救おうと誓っていたという。生前のこの誓願によって，死後に霊神とまつられて利益を与える神となった。この後，自雲霊神は日蓮宗の寺にまつられて，腰から下の病に霊験ありとして，多くの信者を集めている。
