French philosopher and politician. After participating in the formation of the "French Carbonari" party under the Restoration, he joined the Saint-Simon faction in 1825, but broke away from Enfantin in 1829 due to theoretical conflicts and began to form his own school of thought. After the July Revolution in 1830, he joined the republican association "Friends of the People" and developed his own social theory that mixed utopian socialism and Catholicism in the newspaper "Les Europas", preaching the realization of social progress and fraternity through worker productive cooperatives, and in the 1840s he had a strong influence on the militants (activists) of the labor movement based on the newspaper "Atelier". With the help of his friend Pierre-Célestin Roux-Lavergne (1802-1874), he published a collection of historical documents, "History of the French Revolutionary Parliament", in 40 volumes (1834-1838). After the February Revolution of 1848, he joined the Nationalists (bourgeois republicans) and briefly served as President of the Constituent Assembly. After the June events of the same year, he supported Cavaignac, but lost in the Legislative Assembly elections of 1849, and retired from politics in 1850.
