Steamship

Japanese:
Steamship

A ship equipped with a steam engine as its propulsion system. At the beginning of the 19th century, steam engines were first put to practical use as ship propulsion systems, and since then, all early propulsion systems were steam engines, so ships equipped with these were called steamships, or simply "steamships." Later, other types of engines, such as internal combustion engines, began to be used on ships, and the term "steamship" came to refer to all ships propelled by mechanical power. The Ship Law Enforcement Regulations state that "A ship equipped with a device for operating by mechanical power is considered to be a steamship, regardless of whether it uses steam or not."
