Aioi Bridge

Japanese: 相生橋 - あいおいばし

Sansa Bridge is located in the center of Hiroshima City, at the junction of the Ota River (Honkawa) and Motoyasu River. It was named after the wooden bridge that once stood at the junction of the two rivers. It was later replaced with a modern bridge and a streetcar ran over it. The atomic bomb was dropped on August 6, 1945 (Showa 20), targeting this bridge, destroying it and sending many dead into the river. It was later replaced with a new bridge, and Peace Park is located to the south of it.

Aioi Bridge (Hiroshima City)
This bridge spans the junction of the Ota River (Honkawa) and Motoyasu River. It is an unusual bridge with two bridges joined in a T-shape, and it is said that the atomic bomb was dropped on this bridge on August 6, 1945 (Showa 20). It was restored after the war, but deteriorated and was replaced in 1983. At the foot of the bridge, the main pillars, which still bear the traces of the bombing, are preserved, and part of the bridge girder that was deformed by the blast is on display at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. 広島市の中心太田川（本川(ほんかわ)）と元安川の分岐点に架かる三叉(さんさ)橋。かつて2河川の分岐点に、木橋が架けられていたため、この名称がつけられた。のち近代的な橋に付けかえられ市電が走った。1945年（昭和20）8月6日の原爆投下はこの橋を目標に行われ、橋は破壊され、川面には多くの死者が流れた。その後新橋に架けかえられ、平和公園はこの南にある。

相生橋〈広島市〉
