Yukihira pot - Yukihira pot

Japanese:
Yukihira pot - Yukihira pot

A thick ceramic pot, a type of earthenware pot. It is also written as Yukihira Nabe. It is also simply called "Yukihira". The origin of the name is said to be from the vessel used to roast salt, as Ariwara no Yukihira (818-893) had female divers roast salt in Suma. In addition to a lid, it has a handle and a spout. It is said to have been made towards the end of the Tenmei era (1781-89), and replaced the small cast iron pots that were used until then for single servings. It heats gently and has good heat retention, making it suitable for cooking porridge and gruel. Aluminum or copper hammered pots with wooden handles are also called Yukihira Nabe.
