...A large hot spring town is located in a small depression in a plateau at an altitude of 1,200 meters on the eastern slope of Shirane Volcano. Kusatsu Onsen has over 100 springs, including the Yubatake hot springs located almost in the center of the town, with a flow rate of 34,000 liters per minute, second only to Ibusuki Onsen in Kagoshima Prefecture. A large amount of boiling water gushes out from the Yubatake hot springs, which are surrounded by stone walls about 20 meters wide and 60 meters long.
