Tanezu - Kusatsu

Japanese: 種津 - くさつ
Tanezu - Kusatsu

… [Shozo Ido]
[Kusatsu Post Town]
A post station in Omi Province, located at the junction of the Tokaido and Nakasendo roads. Originally written as Tanezu, it was named after the area, which was like a port where various goods were gathered and distributed. During the Muromachi period, the Kusatsu Imperial Palace was established here, where the Ashikaga Shogun used to stay and rest when he visited Ise Shrine, and it is clear that it flourished as a post station at the time.
