A biogeographical division. A term used mainly in plant geography, it corresponds to a zoogeographical region. When flora or fauna are compared and classified into regions with their respective characteristics, each region is divided into kingdoms, regions, regions, etc., depending on the level of regional division. Regional systems are determined by geological and ecological conditions, but because the distribution patterns differ depending on the target biological group, there are often differences in regional divisions. Also, it is often difficult to set clear boundaries.

生物地理学上の地域区分。おもに植物地理学で使われる用語で、動物地理区に相当する。植物相あるいは動物相を比較し、それぞれの特徴をもった地域に分類したときの各地域で、地域区分の段階により、界、区、地方などが区別される。区系は、地史的および生態的条件によって決まるが、対象とする生物群によって分布の様相が異なるため、地域区分に差がみられることが多い。また、明確な境界設定が困難なことも少なくない。
