Kuke - Kuke

...Abbreviation of the reincarnated Buddha. In Tibetan it is called Tulk (sprul sku, incarnation) or Kuke (sku skyes, reincarnation). The incarnated bodhisattva that the Buddha makes appear in this world continues to save people by being reborn in the world of reincarnation until all people are enlightened and saved, and based on the teaching of the Lankavatāra Sutra that the Buddha himself will not enter the ideal nirvana, the Buddha considered outstanding monks to be such bodhisattvas, and the custom arose of searching for reincarnations among those who were conceived and born within 49 days of the death of the bodhisattva.
