…The protagonist of the Don Camillo series by the Italian popular writer Giovanni Guareschi (1908-68). Set in a rural village along the Po River during the chaotic situation immediately after the Resistance during World War II, this is a heartwarming story of tears and laughter about Don Camillo, a priest, and Peppone, a Communist village mayor, who are both kind, cruel, and violent, but who always quarrel with each other, but who also protect each other with friendship and respect.
