Japanese: 仮出獄 - かりしゅつごく

A type of parole, when a person sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment or incarceration has served one-third of the sentence, or when a person sentenced to life imprisonment or incarceration has served 10 years and shows remorse, the Regional Parole Board makes a decision on parole based on the application of the prison warden (Penal Code 28, Offender Prevention and Rehabilitation Act 28-32). During parole, the inmate is placed under probation and must maintain good behavior and observe other conditions, and parole will be revoked if he or she violates these conditions. If parole is not revoked during the remaining period of the sentence, the prisoner has completed the sentence. In reality, most inmates, except those with very short sentences, are granted parole, but in many cases parole is granted after serving about two-thirds to three-quarters of the sentence.

仮釈放の一つで，有期懲役，禁錮に処せられた者が刑期の3分の1，また無期懲役，禁錮に処せられた者が 10年を経過し，改悛の情があるときには，地方更生保護委員会において，収容監獄長の申請に基づき仮釈放の決定がなされる (刑法 28，犯罪者予防更生法 28～32) 。仮出獄中は，保護観察に付せられ，善行保持その他の遵守事項を守らなければならず，違反すれば仮釈放を取消される。仮出獄は残刑期間中に取消されることなく経過すれば，刑期を満了したことになる。現実には，ごく短期の受刑者以外は大半が仮出獄を許されているが，刑期の3分の2から4分の3程度で仮出獄を許される例が多い。
